UP-FRONT TIPs
robots.txt File: When using a "robots.txt" file, do not include folders that you don't want "humans" to visit. Often, this file is passively thought of as a minimalistic security defense, whereas it'll keep the search engines out of there, so no one will see its there. What we tend to forget is that people who attend Hacking 101 are in there visiting everyone's robots.txt file to see what they can find.

Domain Names
If/when you find the host you're willing to use, you might want to check one additional item - who will own your domain name?
I'm finding that there are hosts out there, who will register your domain name for you. You get your name, you get all your pages setup, you begin making sales, and everything is grand. A year later, you begin having problems with your host. You decide to move. You then find out that when the domain was originally registered by your host, your host put all the contact information under their name. If they're nice about it, or if you're extremely persuasive (and legal may not fly), you might get your name back in a matter of weeks. It's possible, however, it could take months - many months.
Check with the host you're thinking of signing up and ask who will be named in the Organization, Admin, and Billing contacts. The Technical contact should be the only record that has your host's contact information. If you already have a registered domain, and you're not sure who your contacts are, you might want to check out either the Tucows WHOIS Look Up, or you can go directly to the Whois.net site yourself.
GiftsForYou.Biz uses Enom as its domain provider. Enom will allow you to manage your domain. The owner of GiftsForYou.Biz, Keith D Commiskey is named as the contact person for all three contact records mentioned above. Web hosting is provided by Hostasaurus.com, and they are noted as the Technical contact.
Other domains, such as kdcinfo.com, crystalgiftsforyou.com, crystalcurios.com, crystalanimalfigurines.com, and crystalcollectible.com, are all managed independently through NameCheap.com.
Side Note: kdcinfo.com is hosted by EnergizedHosting.com, while crystalcollectible.com, crystalanimalfigurines.com, crystalcurios.com, and crystalgiftsforyou.com are all parked via the NameCheap.com management utility.
Strong Recommendation: Register your own domain for $8.88 using NameCheap.com, and then when you get your web host, you can simply plug in the DNS information that your web host provides into your domain names on NameCheap.com. It's really easy, and you're in full control of your domain names.
Web Site Creation Tools
If you will be selling a variety of products or services online, you might consider using a shopping cart catalog system. However, if you're only offering a few products or services, or your web site (or page) is primarialy informational, you might prefer a standalone site/page creation program.

Keywords
The following sites are extremely useful when it comes to find what words to use across your website. The words you use in your title, description, and keyword meta tags are only the beginning. You must also know what words will be productive when used in your alt tags, name and id tags, heading tags, and even the text between your href tags are used to help categorize and rank your page/site. Careful though, using too many of the same word can also potentially damage your site's reputation and character.
Submit to major search engines and directories manually
It's worth the effort to ensure your information is properly submitted.
Be careful of sites that will ban you for submitting more than once. The following is an extemely small list of those you would want to submit to directly, however, some of these will include 2, 3, or even more at once, but they are simply packaged together (they are not mass-submitters).

Affiliations
Place banners, links, and search engine tools on your pages. Consider which ones you want where. Spread them out, or concentrate on 2 or 3 of the ones you prefer. Don't overdo them, and most importantly, don't let them overpower what your site is really about; your product or service.
Cross-Linking
Place links on all your pages to other (relevant) pages, and if you have them, other sites that you own.
All these (related pages/sites) will be cross-linked and cross-referenced.
For instance, GiftsForYou.Biz also owns and operates KDC-Info. So, you will see links to and from both sites to each other. The relation, although a stretch, is extremely common in that KDC-Info is the creator of GiftsForYou.Biz; even though they're owned and operated by one in the same.
Submit any/all URL's that you can to as many site submissions services as you can
Over time, your page and/or site will become prevalent and widespread across the World Wide Web.
I have seen links from little search engines and little sites across the globe... 5 years after posting.
